Frequently Asked Questions

Are meals from Gourmet Pet Kitchen raw?

Our meals are all lightly cooked in order to kill bacteria yet preserve the nutrients in our ingredients.

In addition, “The AVMA recognizes public interest in feeding raw diets to dogs and cats. However, the AVMA discourages feeding any raw or undercooked animal-sourced protein (e.g., meat, poultry, fish, egg, milk*) to dogs and cats because of their risk to human and animal health.”

Where do you get your ingredients?

Our fruits and veggies come from local markets as we want to support the local economy as much as possible. We get our human-grade meats, grains, and oils from local grocery stores.

Are your recipes vet-approved? Are they a complete diet for my dog?

All of our recipes have been reviewed by vets in MX and the US. Our recipes are made with all-natural ingredients and, in rotation, are designed to offer your dog a multitude of micronutrients. They do not include supplements that are fortified with vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. Just good healthy food.

Full recipes and nutritional breakdowns are available for each of our three recipes. Please work with your vet to ensure a complete diet tailored to your dog’s age, breed, activity level, and health.

How do I store meals from Gourmet Pet Kitchen?

Your pet’s meals come in vacuum-sealed bags. They will last four days in the fridge and up to four months in the freezer. We recommend putting the unused portions in a container after opening . The natural ingredients can separate and a quick stir before serving can reincorporate them.

How do I determine how much to feed my dog?

Refer to our feeding chart for each recipe. It’s based on nutritional content and calories. As your pet’s care-giver, it is up to you to monitor their weight and adjust the measurements for your dog’s needs.

You can feed your dog GPK recipes as their entire diet. However, we recommend talking to your vet about supplements to ensure they get all of the vitamins and nutrients they need for their specific health profile. Other dog owners like to mix with kibble for one or two daily meals. Again, consult with your vet.

How do I transition my dog to fresh food?

This is the traditional recommendation for transition dogs from dry food to a new diet.

“Dogs should transition to a new food over seven days. Initially replace 25% of the old food with the new food. Continue to gradually increase the proportion of the new food offered based on your pet's acceptance.

Is Gourmet Pet Kitchen for every dog?

For dogs who have problems with their kidneys or pancreas, levels of protein need to be carefully monitored. Please share our nutritional breakdowns with your dog’s veterinarian to determine if we are the right food source for your dog.

Gourmet Pet Kitchen is not formulated to meet the complex dietary needs of puppies. With proper supplementation of glucosamine and chondroitin, our recipes are great for older dogs.
